Collections Management department of the Virginia Museum of Fine
Arts invites applications from individuals skilled in collections
care, object housing, and storage maintenance for the role of
Collections Technician, Objects and Paintings . This position
offers critical support to the storage, preservation, and
presentation of all objects and paintings in the care, custody, and
control of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The role requires
skill and experience working with many types of art. This position
will play a supporting role in the Collections Department during
the upcoming VMFA expansion. Duties Include: • Participating in the
maintenance of all collections storage spaces at VMFA (on and
offsite) for objects and paintings. • Participating in storage
organization and improvement projects, and planned implementation
of offsite storage in support of the museum expansion project. •
Creating storage mounts and housing. • Transporting art within the
museum and between onsite and offsite storage spaces. • Utilizing
TMS collections management system and other computer programs for
data management, communication, and scheduling. Salary and
Benefits: This is a salaried, non-exempt position offering
$40,815/annually and Commonwealth of Virginia employee benefits,

of and demonstrated skill in the secure housing, storage, handling,
and transportation of objects and paintings according to best
practices and industry standards. • Demonstrated skill in the
fabrication of appropriate housing for artwork. • Ability and
knowledge to participate in proper maintenance and organization of
art storage areas. • Good judgment, flexibility, and willingness to
adapt to shifting priorities and deadlines Additional
Considerations • Documented success as a professional Collections
Assistant or Technician, Conservation Technician, or Art Handler in
a museum environment; minimum two years’ experience. • Experience
with lifts and significant skill in the operation of hand and power
fabrication tools as well as other material handling equipment. •
Graduation from an accredited college or university or equivalent
work experience. • Proficiency in the use of Collections Management
Systems (preferably TMS), Microsoft 365, and project management
