Blue Origin is self-funding the rapid development of multiple in-space flight systems - of varying sizes, propellant types, and technical challenges. Our versatile spacecraft will serve a wide variety of customers and missions, starting in just three years. A hardware-rich prototyping approach allows rapid design/build iteration. On these outstanding programs, you will experience the full lifecycle from formulation to flight in a short time, while achieving historic achievements. As an Avionics FPGA Firmware Engineer at Blue Origin, you will need to possess a range of skills and experience to ensure the safe and reliable operation of critical systems. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, verifying, and testing firmware for systems that must operate in harsh environments and under demanding conditions.
To be successful in this role, one should have experience in developing firmware for FPGA-based avionics systems, as well as a deep understanding of FPGA development languages such as VHDL or Verilog. Knowledge with FPGA development tools and methodologies, including simulation, synthesis, and verification is also key skills for one's success.

Responsibilities:


  • Develop firmware requirements in coordination with systems engineering, hardware engineering, software engineering, and subsystem owners.
  • Develop FPGA designs and implementations using hardware description languages.
  • Perform verification using techniques such as simulation, Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL, OVM, and UVM.
  • Author tests, and documentation, and participate in design reviews.




    Qualifications:

    • B.S. degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field, or related experience.
    • 4+ years of FPGA/ASIC design and verification work experience.
    • Proven firmware development skills in real-time embedded systems, particularly in Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL.
    • Experience crafting, developing, and verifying high-performance FPGA or ASIC solutions for use in highly integrated (SW and HW) systems.
    • Solid understanding of NASA Procedural Requirements NPR 7150.2, DO-254 as compliance for the design assurance of electronic hardware in airborne systems, or other safety-critical software standards.
    • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and build a culture of teamwork.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.




      Desired (but not required):

      • 6+ years of FPGA/ASIC development experience.
      • Experience with Modelsim, or Questasim simulators and Synopsys tools for design from vendors such as Microchip, Xilinx, and/or Altera.
      • Experience using Xilinx Vivado and/or Intel Quartus development platforms to successfully build, test, and deploy hardware implementations.

        Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays for all regular employees (including part-time), fixed-term, and interns.
