Director, Curriculum Design and DevelopmentMaryland Institute College of ArtDirector, Curriculum Design and Development?Department: Open StudiesDivision: Academic AffairsFLSA Status: ExemptReports to (Position Title): Associate Dean,Open Studies (OS)????Work Schedule: M-F, may work evening andweekend hours as required?Position Summary: Maryland Institute College ofArt (MICA) seeks a collaborative, strategic, solution-orientedproblem solver to help the Open Studies academic unit set and growour capacity to respond to learning needs across our educationalprograms, with particular emphasis on online degree programming.The director provides vision and leadership aimed at developingnovel and scalable ways to provide greater access to high qualitylearning experiences to diverse audiences. The director supportsand guides academic program leadership, instructors, and studentsin the use and implementation of best-in-class educational models,instructional materials, and technology. The position includes thesupervision of help desk staff employed in support of MICA's onlinelearning community.?General Purpose: The Director, CurriculumDesign and Development works to ensure the quality and value ofOpen Studies programming while innovating ways to create newprogramming with new curricular approaches.?Position Responsibilities: Open Studies servesa diverse student body of traditional and non-traditional collegestudents, art and design professionals, lifelong learners, teens,and children. The unit administers four unique professionalgraduate programs in the Business of Art and Design, InformationVisualization, UX Design, and Design Leadership along withstudio-based art and design classes for adults, teens, andchildren, short-term travel programs, and pipeline and culturalorientation programs in support of the college's diversity andinternationalization goals. As MICA's educational venture space theunit is engaged in innovating academic programming (includingdigital education, new curricular areas and program structures, andprograms for non-traditional students) and revenue growth. TheDirector, Curriculum Design and Development will: Work to assess/evaluate current online programs to assurequalityEvaluate and strengthen program delivery modelsEvaluate and strengthen instructor/student onboarding andpreparation for online learningManage e-learning environments (MICA currently uses Canvas andZoom as our primary e-learning tools) Research, preview, evaluate, and recommend necessary e-learningtools and services and assistive technology Support instructors by providing the foundation materials forcourses and giving constructive feedback on how instructors areimplementing those materialsCoordinate the development of instructional materials that arefunctional, informative, and consistent with sound instructionaldesign principles, including alignment of educational objectiveswith content, activities, and assessmentsProvide recommendations for interface design, sequencing ofinstruction, use of assessments, and online interactiveactivitiesCreate, document and improve processes, standards, and bestpractices, as neededIn consultation with MICA's Learning Resource Center Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation ActGuide adherence with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines(WCAG) 2.0Ensure design & style consistency for standardization,branding, normalization, and accessibilityConduct Assistive Technology assessments with faculty andstudents and partner with them to implement, install, train, andfollow up on recommendations Provide Web Accessibility guidance and consultation to OpenStudies instructors, students, and staffHire, train, and supervise help desk staff in support of thee-learning environment including approaches to supporting studentshaving accessibility issuesCoordinate work with academic program leadsBudget oversight responsibilities for some restricted and/orendowed funds?Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in related fieldKnowledge of current theories, trends, and innovations relatedto contemporary approaches to curriculum design and development andAdult Learning TheoryAbility to evaluate instructional and programeffectivenessExperience with e-learning technologies including variousoperating systems, file structures, file formats, protocols,streaming audio and video, podcasting, and social networkingtoolsExperience with Canvas and ZoomKnowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices associatedwith students with disabilities, assistive technology and copyrightissues (ADA, 504, 508, WCAG, FERPA, Chafee law, etc.)Familiarity with assistive technology and software programs forindividuals with disabilitiesAbility to gather, interpret, and extract meaning fromdataCapacity to develop, implement, and manage strategicobjectivesA collaborative, entrepreneurial, proactive style withexcellent human relations skillsExcellent organizational and planning skills with the abilityto manage multiple projectsDetail oriented and deadline driven work ethicExcellent written and verbal communicationAbility to manage budget and personnel?Preferred Qualifications: Background in or knowledge of art and design education?Reporting to this position: Help DeskTechnician, PT?Physical demands and work environment: Thephysical demands and work environment characteristics describedhere are representative of those that must be met by an employee tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals withdisabilities to perform the essential functions.
