Verisign enables the security, stability, and resiliency of key internet infrastructure and services, including providing root zone maintainer services, operating two of the 13 global internet root servers, and providing registration services and authoritative resolution for the .com and .net top-level domains, which support the majority of global e-commerce.At Verisign, we focus on improving security and productivity across the organization. To help us further refine the security of Verisign products, we continue evolving our current security tools and processes. With this goal in mind, we are in search of a skilled Middle or Senior level Security Software Engineer to join the Productivity Engineering Team.An ideal candidate should deeply care about software security, have full-stack security experience, be fluent in one or two programming languages, and be eager to learn as needed. The candidate should have an understanding of fundamentals including core Computer Science concepts accompanied by hands-on experience identifying security vulnerabilities and threats and proposing solutions to address them, building task-specific tools and automation when needed. Obtaining these competencies often requires an equivalent of a bachelor's degree and 6-8 years of practical work experience. We remain open to other career paths.The candidate will be involved in all aspects of security improvements, including ideation, design, implementation, deployment, and promotion of security-enhancing solutions. This will imply regular cross-team collaboration with Security, Engineering, Infrastructure, and Operations. The candidate is expected to take full ownership of the security improvements, regularly working with multiple engineering teams, proactively identifying, prioritizing, addressing common security threats, and helping teams implementing corresponding solutions.Some immediate focus areas include:* research and implementation of tools and components addressing common emerging security concerns* prevention of common security issues (SQL injection, cross-site scripting, authentication, authorization, etc.) across multiple software development teams* becoming a subject matter expert in Verisign security standards, promoting best practices for secure coding, design, and architecture* understanding information security processes at Verisign and improving them* identifying potential for efficiency gains by engineering teams while adapting to continuously evolving security standards* proposing and implementing architectures and systems that are secure and compliant by design* developing and showcasing reference implementations of secure components and frameworks* promotion and coaching good end-to-end security culture across teams via demos, tech talks, and individual team conversationsWe expect the candidate to possess competencies that allows them to bring noticeable improvements in some of the above-mentioned areas and allow Verisign to continue delivering highly-secure products frequently while incorporating good security practices.We see the described role as a unique opportunity to impact the daily work experience of fellow Verisign engineers and improve the security of core Verisign products that the world relies upon.Preferred experience:* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience* 10+ years of relevant work experience in software development* Proven foundation in Computer Science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, operating systems, object-oriented design* Stay current on security industry trends, attack techniques, mitigation techniques, security technologies and new and evolving threats to the organization by attending conferences, networking with peers and other education opportunitiesCompanyVerisign is an American company based in Reston, Virginia that operates the DNS infrastructure for top-level domains including .com, .net, .tv, .edu, .gov and others, as well as two of the world's thirteen Internet Root Servers.
