Inmarsat Government is looking for a Senior Database Engineer & Reports Developer that will work in Reston, VA as a part of the IT Solutions group to support current and upcoming business needs. This position reports to the Software Development Manager.Inmarsat Government has several satellite communication products and services that are supported by several databases. The Senior Database Engineer and Reports Developer will have solid credentials in database administration, design, development, and reports development. Inmarsat Government uses SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, ASP.NET and custom .NET applications using C# in addition to MuleSoft, Elasticsearch, Kibana and Kafka as a part of the software ecosystem to fulfill business needs. Responsibilities:Own and administer all SQL Server databases. Create, extend, tune, backup and restore databasesDesign scalable and efficient databases and data structures based on business requirementsDesign, setup and maintain replicated databasesDesign, develop, maintain, finetune SQL queries, stored procedures to be efficientSupport application developers with creation and modification of SQL queries and stored proceduresWrite business context aware data transformation and load scripts to assist with data cleansing, warm and cold storage, and bulk loading of dataTroubleshoot and respond to issues in development and productionCreate automation scripts for data management and warehousingWork with the team lead, analysts, and business users to gather functional and technical requirementsDevelop applications from both formal and informal specificationsMaintain version history of software source codeDevelop prototypes to established requirements and designDevelop reports using SSRS or other similar reporting toolsPerform ad-hoc data extracts and data reports as requested by usersAutomate report generation and deliveryDocument current and new databasesRequired SkillsAbility to understand and learn the business and doing what it takes to make the databases support the business and user communityAdvanced database design and development skills using SQL ServerExperience designing, processing and querying databases that contain large volumes of real-time dataKnowledge of software development, concepts, best practices, and proceduresHands-on and production-grade experience in designing and creating secure, scalable, and efficient databases and queriesExperience designing and creating databases that integrate with, extend, and/or reuse data contained in other databases (SSOT)Strong Interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skillsAbility to learn and implement new technology as required during project workDesired SkillsProgramming knowledge on one or more of the following will be a huge plus: C#, ASP.NET, MuleSoft, Kibana and KafkaWorking knowledge in SSRS and SSIS.Ability to work with other databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQLAbility to work on Linux environments and troubleshoot third-party applications and tools*** Candidate should be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. ***KeywordsSQL Server, DBA, Reports, C#, .NET, ASP.NET MVC, JavaScript, jQuery, MuleSoft, Kafka, SQL developer, SQL programmer, data warehouse, ETL, database engineerInmarsat Government is an Equal Opportunity Employer
