Senior Research Scientist Scope: In support of the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Pathway of Care, the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) serves active duty military, their beneficiaries, and veterans with TBI through state-of-the science innovative clinical research initiatives and educational programs, and support for force health protection services and clinical care knowledge. DVBIC fulfills this mission through ongoing collaboration with the Department of Defense (DoD), military services, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), civilian health partners, local communities, families and individuals with TBI. The contractor staff shall work under the direction and oversight of the government for all described tasks. This is position is notional and contingent upon contract award. Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for providing scientific and academic guidance for a program of clinical investigation focusing on traumatic brain injury (TBI) within the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC). Provides oversight to the 15-Year Longitudinal Studies, a congressionally mandated, multi-phase epidemiological study that considers diverse psychosocial and neurobiological risk and protective factors for TBI. Consults with and assists other groups in the development and implementation of TBI related clinical investigations as needed. Provides scientific oversight of the 15-Year Longitudinal Studies and oversees a larger program of clinical investigations on TBI within DVBIC. Provides scientific oversight for all aspects of a large clinical investigation project including concept development, protocol design, form development, oversees submission through regulatory bodies, data collection and analysis, production of professional manuscripts for journal submission and professional presentations. Follows guidelines to support this large project with knowledge of general directives established by and with the Principle Investigator. Serves as points of contact for communication for the 15 Year Studies, receiving support requests and ensuring that all required documents and procedures are performed within established guidelines. Provides required reports and meets scheduled report submission requirements. Coordinates, oversees, monitors and day-to-day operations over Project activities. Ensures scientific quality and progression of the Project meeting milestones as targeted. Assigns mission appropriate contract staff or contract support personnel for the Project. Ensures that realistic deadlines are set and appropriate resources are assigned to accomplish all established tasks. Monitors progress to ensure that critical elements are proceeding on schedule and that all deliverables are provided on a timely basis. As authorized by DVBIC, may represent the Principle Investigator at meetings or other interactions. Communicates with and oversees collaborations with academic institutions and external authorities. Oversees each contractor Project element receives the necessary attention to meet all milestones. Provides scientific review of prospective contractor personnel's history regarding scientific personnel recruitment. Supervise scientific and administrative staff. Adhere to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy. Maintain clean and organized work area. Other duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications: Knowledge of the principles and theoretical concepts of brain injury pathophysiology, clinical effects, and treatment. General clinical investigation knowledge with ability to develop and implement scientifically sound clinical investigation protocols. Ability to conceptualize and execute multiple clinical investigation projects from an existing database. Ability to effectively author professional, peer reviewed journal articles, manuscripts, clinical investigation grant applications, posters, and clinical investigation reports. Ability to select and apply statistical techniques appropriate to the brain injury clinical investigation protocols under development and/or application. Knowledge of the administrative processes appropriate to the above assignments. Ph.D. or advanced terminal degree required (Doctorate). Preferred in Neuropsychology, Psychology or Public Health. Ten (10) years related scientific program management experience. Preferred Qualifications: Training and experience in neuropsychology. Experience directing a multidisciplinary clinical investigation team. Peer recognition of professional and scholarly contributions in his/her chosen specialty. Demonstrated ability to develop national and international clinical investigation collaborations. Knowledge of NIH & NIMH multi-year grant administration and/or familiarity with the military medical system along with grants management experience. Demonstrated history of developing long term partnerships with academia to collaborate and further the study of TBI. Demonstrated track record in obtaining grant funding from national or international granting agencies, development of a successful program of clinical investigation in TBI, and productivity in publication of peer reviewed papers in the area of TBI. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: HQ DVBIC office setting and site clinical environment. May involve travel from HQ to Network sites and meeting venues. Must be available to travel locally, regionally and nationally. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Work involves sitting for prolonged periods of time. May require bending, stooping. May need to carry light items - up to 25 lbs. May encounter patients who are confused, agitated, or abusive. #LJN
