Employee Relations / U.S. Human Resource Lead

As our Employee Relations / U.S. HR Lead you will lead nation-wide employee programs focused on maintaining and enhancing the social and psychological bond between employees and leaders by fostering trust, value, and respect.  As an experienced individual contributor, you will work on initiatives that align our people strategies and processes to our culture, while finding ways to continually seek to improve our employees’ knowledge of, understanding about, and engagement with the company.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leads as employee relations partner for cross-functional projects that focus on employee touchpoints such as employee development, responsible handling of changes, health, safety, and sustainability, recognition, work-life balance, engagement, anti-bullying and harassment, communications, and dealings with employees' representatives through the lens of the employee experience. Patterns of employment have changed, and the range and variety of work has expanded while new forms of work have proliferated, leading to both opportunities and risks. These developments impact directly on employment relationship and challenge traditional concepts and old certainties.
  • Analyses state and federal employment laws and recent trends in case law affecting the employment relationship to incorporate new understanding in people policies.
  • Partners with the legal function to resolve formal and significant employee concerns.
  • Provides information, resources, and training to increase the effectiveness of leaders working with employees in performance-based coaching and to also support performance-based actions.
  • Identifies tools, resources, and procedures for effectively managing workforce reshaping actions in a manner that meets all statutory and regulatory requirements and results in the best possible outcomes for Rolls-Royce and for impacted employees.
  • Responds reactively as needed on critical employee relationship issues that can be crisis-oriented and typically can only be successfully completed with limited time.  This may require travel with little to no notice for extended periods of time.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or human resources with 5+ years of professional experience in a combination of the fields of: human resources, site HR leadership, equal opportunity programs, employee relations, labour relations or legal OR
  • Master’s degree in business or human resources with 3+ of professional experience in a combination of the fields of: human resources, site HR leadership, equal opportunity programs, employee relations, labour relations or legal OR
  • JD/PhD
  • In order to be considered for this role, you must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated capability to engage in strategic, big picture thinking with experience creating, designing, and implementing organization-wide change programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all applicable federal and state employment & labour laws.
  • Experience in positive employee relations and maintaining a direct employment relationship between the company and employees at a site or number of sites over a period of months or years. 
  • Experience administering trade union agreements across different business models and unions.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to quickly gain trust working across organizational lines.
  • Ambitious and able to work independently, while also collaborating and communicating as an active member of distributed business and HR teams.
  • Highly proficient writing skills to generate clear reports, executive summaries, and white papers.  Intermediate to advanced skills in building and designing presentations and analysing complex data utilizing spreadsheets, pivot tables, macros, VBA etc.
  • Aerospace and defense industry background with experience in U.S. government HR programs.
