Job Overview
The role of the Subject Matter Expert II (Designer) with
engineering and design expertise is to utilize AutoCAD and other
drafting and 3D software. This position will support the Naval
Information Warfare Center (NIWC) in Alexandria, VA and will be
working in support of DCS and NIWC.Work Model: Onsite
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Prepares complete sets of detail drawings from sketches, notes
and verbal information supplied by engineers, architects and
designers.
- Utilizing knowledge of recognized systems of symbols, legends,
shadings and lines having specific meanings in construction
drawings.
- Requires utilizing the conventional drafter and CAD techniques
and a working knowledge of the terms and procedures of the industry
including information from computer programs, and internet sites,
precedents, manufacturers' catalogs and technical guides.
- Recurring work is assigned in general terms; more complex
assignments include information on methods, procedures, sources of
information and precedents to be followed.
- Revisions to existing drawings or computer models may be
assigned with a verbal explanation of the desired results; more
complex revisions are produced from sketches, computer models or
specifications which clearly depict the desired product.
- Working with NIWC Atlantic and other technical codes,
program/project managers, and SMEs, the Drafter/CAD Operator II
will assist the CAD Supervisor in planning, testing, and
integration of complex audio-visual displays, various communication
and electronic warfare systems, related ancillary and
computer-based systems onboard naval ships and command centers
worldwide.
- Experience working in or around industrial environments such as
shipyards and Naval/Coast Guard bases and piers.
- Incumbent independently resolves drafting problems
encountered.
- Promotes quality and customer service.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- High school education or equivalent.
- Certificate of successful completion of post high school, or
equivalent, formal technical drafting course of study, plus three
(3) years drafting experience.
- Working knowledge of drafting practices in at least one
engineering discipline.
- One (1) additional year of relevant drafting experience may be
substituted for the post high school drafting courses.
- Experience working in or around industrial environments such as
shipyards and Naval/Coast Guard bases and piers.
- Up to 25% travel is required.
- Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving
record.
- Must meet and maintain security requirements including
clearance eligibility.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background
